DG Regio & CoR call on cross-border cooperation stories

The current unprecedented crisis has put to the test all aspects of our life, including cross-border cooperation which is facing its most challenging times in decades. Overnight, Member States closed their borders across the European Union; this instantly put different sectors of our economy into a very difficult position, with some sectors in certain regions, facing potential collapse.

On the other hand, the crisis has also shown the incredible resourcefulness and solidarity between the peoples of Europe, proving once again that cross-border cooperation is not only wanted by Europe’s citizens, but it is also essential for the livelihoods of many of them.

European Commission´s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG Regio) is partnering together with the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) and the leading associations working in the field of cross-border cooperation in Europe_ the Mission Operationelle Transfrontalière (MOT), the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR) and the Central European Service for Cross-border Initiatives (CESCI)_ to pool resources together and publish the many stories and experiences in one single place; therefore a special section on cross-border cooperation has been dedicated on the CoR’s COVID 19 exchange platform.

Since they are looking for all kinds of relevant stories – i.e. not limited to Interreg projects - the Institutions cordially invite you to promote this exercise also via programme / partners websites and through your social media accounts.

The idea is for all parties to submit stories by filling this EU survey, so we can speed up the process of analysing the stories and publish them on the COVID 19 platform managed by the CoR. Whenever possible, photos and/or videos along with the authorization to publicize them, should also be sent.

Based on the experiences gathered, both positive and negative ones, the CoR and the European Commission, will analyse the impacts of the COVID 19 pandemic on cross-border cooperation, local economies, the Schengen Area and citizens living in those regions.
