• Under the title Innovate to Protect: Knowledge, Territory and Business, it addressed the fight against wildfires
  • FIREPOCTEP+ is a project co-financed by the European Union through POCTEP

Within the framework of the Interreg Cooperation Day, the FIREPOCTEP+ project held an event in Santiago de Compostela on 23 September 2025 that connected knowledge, territory, and business under Activity 4: “Innovative solutions and financial sustainability in a smart landscape.”

This work line integrated three complementary axes: the Cocreathones (Hackathon/Accelerathon and Climathon) as spaces for open innovation and co-creation; reflection on sustainability beyond the project, aimed at consolidating FIREPOCTEP+ achievements over time; and the training plan on community and national funding sources, intended to strengthen resource mobilisation capacities in La Raya.

The event sought to highlight cross-border cooperation as a lever to address the challenges of climate change and fire prevention, promoting solutions that combined R&D&I, business, and civil society in a resilient and sustainable landscape.

About the FIREPOCTEP project

FIREPOCTEP+ (0139_FIREPOCTEP_MAS_6_E) aims to strengthen wildfire prevention and extinction systems in the cross-border region between Spain and Portugal known as La Raya.

Its goal is to improve the territory’s resilience against wildfires in La Raya through actions in the so-called Cross-Border Strategic Management Zones, following the methodology and results of the previous FIREPOCTEP project (POCTEP 2014-2020).

This project is co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the Interreg VI-A Spain-Portugal 2021-2027 Cross-Border Cooperation Program (POCTEP). Led by the University of Vigo, this innovative project has a total budget of €3,322,468.75, runs for three years (01/01/2024–31/12/2026), and involves a total of 15 beneficiaries from Spain and Portugal, as well as 2 partners without funding.
