Voting is now open in the Public Choice category of the 2026 European Funds Awards. This initiative gives citizens the opportunity to support projects funded by European funds in Portugal that have made an outstanding contribution to regional development and people’s well-being.
Among the awards’ finalists are two initiatives approved under the POCTEP 2014–2020 programme, which are examples of cross-border cooperation between Spain and Portugal. Both projects are finalists in the European Territorial Cooperation category and are therefore also eligible for the public vote:
- 0457_ENGP_AECT_1_E – Galicia–Northern Portugal Euroregion (EGTC)
- 0551_PSL_6_E – Programme for a Long-Lived Society
Voting will remain open until 11.59 pm on 4 November (Portugal time). Anyone wishing to take part can do so via the European Funds Awards website by visiting the section entitled “Vote for your favourite project”.
The awards ceremony will take place on 5 November in Lisbon, as part of the 2026 European Funds Showcase.
Other POCTEP projects nominated
In addition to the two finalists, applications from other projects funded by POCTEP have also been accepted. This highlights the impact of cross-border cooperation across a wide range of areas, including employment, innovation, sustainability and the promotion of natural heritage:
- 0345_GEMCAT_6_E – Creating Quality Cross-Border Employment
- 0613_REINOVA_SI_6_P – Reindustrialisation of the Agri-Food Sector: Sustainability and Innovation
- 0220_GERES_XURES_DINAMICO_1_E – Joint Development of the Gerês-Xurés Transboundary Biosphere Reserve
These nominations demonstrate the ability of POCTEP projects to deliver tangible results and strengthen cooperation on both sides of the border, contributing to more balanced, innovative and sustainable development.
The Programme encourages organisations, beneficiaries and members of the public to share this initiative and take part in the vote, helping to raise the profile of projects that are making the border more connected, cohesive and people-centred.
