The Twin NavAux project is co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg VI-A Spain-Portugal POCTEP 2021 – 2027 Program and focuses on promoting the use of the Digital Twin (Digital Twin) in the Naval Auxiliary Industry of Galicia and Northern Portugal.

For the Interreg Cooperation Day 2025, two sessions were held, one in Ferrol (Galicia, Spain) on the 23rd and another in Porto (Portugal) on October 28, 2025, to present its achievements to students from both sides of the border.

On the one hand, the Twin NavAux project was presented to Vocational Training (FP) students, along with the EU co-financing through the Interreg VI-A Spain-Portugal POCTEP 2021 – 2027 Program and the benefits of developing inter-territorial collaboration actions. Afterward, they were able to learn about the Digital Twin pilots that have been developed within the project. Furthermore, didactic workshops were organized with practical activities on the technologies involved in the Smart Digital Twin.

Presentation of the Digital Twin Pilots

One of the main lines of action of the Twin NavAux project is the design and launch of product Digital Twin pilots in naval auxiliary companies.

For this reason, the Interreg Cooperation Day 2025 in Ferrol (Galicia, Spain) focused on introducing these pilots to the 51 students from CIFP of Ferrol and A Coruña (Rodolfo Ucha and Ferrolterra – Imaxe e Son) who participated in the technological-recreational event. The students were able to learn about the Digital Twin pilots from the companies Electrorayma (a cooling water control system for a ship), Ferri (a winch for an offshore wind platform), and Navantia (an HVAC system). Following this, they participated in three didactic workshops.

In Porto, nearly 60 Portuguese students had the opportunity to learn about the Twin NavAux project and its digital twin pilots at the facilities of CATIM (Technological Support Centre for the Metalworking Industry) and AIMMAP (Association of Metallurgical, Metal-Mechanical and Similar Industries of Portugal).

3 workshops on the technologies involved in the Digital Twin

In both sessions, the students were able to learn firsthand about the technologies involved in the Digital Twin.

The first workshop focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), in the second workshop they came into contact with the Internet of Things (IoT), and the third workshop was dedicated to Cybersecurity. In addition to gaining a general overview of each of these technologies, they participated in practical-recreational activities.

The Interreg Cooperation Day 2025 concluded with an engaging talk that covered the history of technological innovation, from the discovery of electricity to quantum computing.
