Every year, 10 million hectares of forests disappear due to deforestation, and another 70 million are devastated by wildfires, according to the United Nations. To address this issue, and in celebration of International Day of Forests (March 21), the strategic importance operation Interreg POCTEP FIREPOCTEP+ organized a cross-border event on March 24 and 25 in Pampilhosa (Coimbra Region).

The event included in-person sessions and an online broadcast to facilitate the participation of experts, policymakers, and representatives from various entities in Spain and Portugal. Among the participants were Carmen Hernández, Managing Authority of the Programme, Delia Bonsignore, Desk Officer of the European Commission, and Isabel Gonçalves, Portuguese National Authority of POCTEP.

Furthermore, the beneficiary organizations of the project had the opportunity to visit actions carried out by the beneficiary entity CIM Alto Minho under the FIREPOCTEP+ project, as well as other initiatives, aiming to capitalize on results and share best practices.
