The European Interreg project TRANSCOM_EUROACE, of which the Extremadura Energy Agency (AGENEX) is the main beneficiary entity, has launched this week a new online training platform about energy communities, accessible at https://transcom.formacion4u.com. This free tool, open to all citizens, aims to train, empower, and strengthen local actors in the EUROACE territory to promote new energy communities with social roots and a forward-looking vision.

The platform offers three distinct courses, available in Spanish and Portuguese, adapted to different levels of involvement. The first, “Participation in Energy Communities,” provides a general introduction to this type of entity, covering their characteristics, benefits, possible activities, and strategies to encourage citizen participation.

The second course, “Management of Energy Communities,” is aimed at people at more advanced stages of the process. Its content includes aspects such as available legal forms, administrative and financial organization, and energy supply management, offering a practical and technical overview of the internal structure of these communities.

The third, “Leadership Role in Energy Communities,” focuses on developing organizational skills for the so-called driving groups, i.e., those leading the implementation of these initiatives. Skills such as facilitating meetings, creating alliances, and involving vulnerable groups in participatory processes are addressed.

Each course lasts 30 hours, can be completed autonomously and flexibly, and has been developed by professionals experienced in implementing energy communities in the EUROACE region, thus offering accessible, useful training adapted to the local reality.

🇪🇸🇵🇹Cross-border network of energy communities

This action is part of the TRANSCOM_EUROACE project, which aims to promote a cross-border network of energy communities between Extremadura and Alentejo. Among other initiatives, it also includes the creation of a Cross-border Community Advisory Service (STAC), which will provide technical, legal, and organizational support to municipalities, citizens, and SMEs interested in moving towards a new, fairer, more cooperative, and inclusive energy model.

In addition to this training, the project has worked on designing the framework of support for energy communities in EUROACE and on the first pilot projects to be implemented soon. Six local energy communities will be created in Spain and Portugal, enabling the installation of photovoltaic infrastructure in their respective municipalities. In the province of Badajoz, the Diputación will install solar panels on the roofs of public buildings in Almendralejo (50 kWp), Valverde de Burguillos (50 kWp), and Villanueva de la Serena (90 kWp).

The Interreg TRANSCOM EUROACE project is co-financed at 75% by the European Union through the Interreg VI A Spain–Portugal Cooperation Programme (POCTEP) 2021-2027. It is led by the Extremadura Energy Agency (AGENEX) and includes a consortium of 13 partners from Spain and Portugal. These include the Provincial Councils of Badajoz and Cáceres, the General Directorate of Industry, Energy and Mines, the General Directorate of Rural Development, FEMPEX, the University of Extremadura, the University of Évora, and the Portuguese intermunicipal communities CIMAA, CIMAC, CIMBB, CIMBAL, and the Regional Energy and Environment Agency of Northern Alentejo and Tejo (AREANATejo).
