On 8 October 2025, the INTAEX Auditorium (Badajoz) will host the TID4AGRO EVENT: Innovation and Challenges in the Olive Oil Sector of the EUROACE Region, a gathering designed to demonstrate how digitalisation and new technologies can transform the olive oil sector, making it more competitive and sustainable.
The initiative is part of the TID4AGRO, a cross-border cooperation project with 12 partners, of which 7 are Portuguese and 5 are Spanish. The project aims to modernise the agri-food sector using digital tools such as sensors, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and data analysis. These technologies help optimise production processes, reduce water and energy consumption, improve olive oil quality, and move towards a low-carbon economy.
Part of the Interreg Cooperation Day Celebrations
The event forms part of the Interreg Cooperation Day celebrations, held annually across Europe around 21 September to highlight the achievements of European territorial cooperation. In 2025, Interreg celebrates 35 years as one of the EU’s key initiatives promoting cooperation between regions, supporting projects in areas such as health, environment, research, education, transport, and sustainable energy.
The programme combines technical presentations, demonstrations, and debates. Topics include olive tree agronomy and varieties, sensor-based efficient irrigation, the impact of harvest timing on virgin olive oil quality, and the presentation of a digital demonstrator for the olive oil sector. Discussions will also cover best production practices, sustainability trends, and new marketing challenges, with special focus on early harvests and the evolving EVOO market.
The event will conclude with a roundtable where experts, cooperatives, and companies will debate the current and future challenges of the sector, from innovation in the fields and mills to distribution and attracting new generations to rural areas.
For these reasons, the TID4AGRO EVENT: Innovation and Challenges in the Olive Oil Sector of the EUROACE Region is a must-attend occasion to discover and share the future of virgin olive oil through innovation and sustainability.
